Smoking and Surgery

When you smoke, carbon monoxide lowers the oxygen in your blood. Oxygen is vital to your healing. Smoke also paralyzes the cells that clear your mucus. In these ways, smoking slows the healing process. Dr. Tran encourages all patients to quit smoking in general, but especially around the time of surgery to help with healing.
